FEMKE STOUT

AMONG THE WILDFLOWERS + GRASSES

AS_Wildflowers_200804.jpg

Femke Stout, architect, has a love for creating aesthetic spaces that evoke wonder. In this project, she aims to bring nature closer to us by allowing wildflowers and grasses to grow. This supports the ecosystem, attracts bees, butterflies, and other animals, and restores the field's wildness.

By mowing paths and circles, she creates spaces where people can walk and sit. “To me, there’s something romantic about relaxing among the wildflowers and grasses.” She seeks moments of tranquility and finds beauty in the ordinary things in life. During the summer, she will continue to develop this project.

Ceramics is a main material in Jonne Stout her work, she searches for specific characteristics in this material such as texture, sound, transparency, limits of fragility.

In her work she strives for a connection with the observer through space, how we relate to space and how it reaches the purity of perception. Shapes and lines interact with each other through movement, sound, light and shadows, which define space among volume, colour and material. Origin of shapes, movement and repetition is continuous research in her work. Poetry speaks with words to our imagination, through rhythm, rhyme, lines and verse.

With the minimalist approach in Jonne Stout her work, she connects to imagination and personal association through geometry, repetition and recognition. She believes this recognition is connected to purity of form, material and the repetitive nature of both our natural and synthetic environment.

Currently Jonne Stout is working on projects exploring time as a fourth dimension of space. Within she is researching the elements water, air and earth and their relationship to movement. Making invisible processes visible, inspired by natural phenomena.

During the “summer house” in Albert van Abbehuis her main focus will be on a kinetic sound installation that expresses time inspired by the tides of the sea and her processes. Form to formlessness. This project will be accompanied by experiments and research within the themes of these elements and their movement.
